Mee Bandung at Parit Bunga, Muar

this is the famous Mee bandung

This entry specially done as I promised earlier; in Mee bandung Muar entry. This is not a paid review or bias because they are my neighbor, but totally becue they served one of the best Mee Bandung Muar in town.

Actually, it is not a restaurant, we just call it Warung Razak (some call it Warung Razak Puchong), and they are family business owned. I will update the proper name. They live in our neighborhood, at Kampung Parit Bunga, Muar. The best part is, my parent's house is less than 30 metres away from the warung.

Since I was a kid (in late 80s), I've been seeing their customers keep coming without fail to enjoy the killer menu, Mee Bandung Muar. My favorite here is something else, fried noodle (his own style is quite similar to mee goreng mamak).

Anyway, based on true fan of mee bandung Muar, they will come here again to taste the famous dish or even get 'tapaw' for next meal when they arrived in KL (people from Muar area will pass this warung when they heading to Tangkak tol exit).

Mahkota Parade Melaka food court

It was Friday. After Prayer at masjid Selat at Pulau Indah, we are heading to Mahkota Parade, for lunch. This is the first time for me having lunch here (during lunch hour) since I start working at the architect firm.

For the food, you can select from variety of Chinese food, malay food, Thai and even Japanese food. I can see yong taufu, Mee banduing, tomyam, tenpanyaki and many more.

 I chose nasi ayam penyet and this is my first experience tasting it. I can't say much about it as I don't know how good it taste somewhere else. 

You also can find fried banana and cempedak goreng at one of the food stall!!! and finally we end up with McDonald's Sundae cone choco top for dessert.. :p

Seriously it was fun for long period of lunch hour (Friday).

Mee bandung Muar is one of the most famous dishes in Muar. It becomes the tourists favorite food whenever they visit Muar. Almost every restaurant in Muar town will have mee bandung in their menu.

There are lots of hot spot for having mee bandung Muar. Medan Ikan Bakar Serkam

Couple days ago my wife's uncle really want to treat us with the ikan bakar (grilled fish). After few suggestions, we decided to go to medan restoran ikan bakar Serkam, located at Serkam Pantai. The place is not far from grandma's house (Kg. Sempang Pantai). Just 10 minutes drive to get there.

It was very happening but those little kids (all cousins) make the dining session up side down. My little boy also don't want to miss the great moment. He refused to stay in the carry cot, end up me to hold him while having my food.

We all agree the food really good enough to make us happy but the price really unbelievable. Uncle said, he spent less than RM 200 for 10 adults and 8 kids eating. You can see in the photos of us, connecting 3 tables will all mess left. You should try this place if you prefer the value or you can still can go to medan ikan bakar terapung Umbai Baru with more comfy place and nicer view.

What makes this place looks so cool is because of the fishermen boats queue along the stream between the restaurants. The are also a bridge connecting those restaurants.

3 layer tea

Have you try this cold marvelous drink? It called 3 layer tea. Normally you can find it at most mamak restaurant all around Malaysia. Or if you see the poster of 3 layer tea stick on the wall of any restaurant, maybe the serve the special drink.

Beware for diabetics, this are not suitable for you. The calories are above standard level. It is too sweet because they mix up tea juice, condensed milk and brown sugar. What you reckoned?

I had this special tea at Restoran Seri Muar, at Jalan Sulaiman. I love the place because the open air compound are separated from heavy traffic of the main road. Besides, there are not many restaurant open till late midnight at Muar.

I used to have gathering with my colleagues here, especially when they come back from the city. Normally I will have mee goreng mamak (Indian style fried noodle) as my regular food ;)

ABC - perfect beverage on hot sunny day

We went to a food stall at jalan Bakariah, Muar for refreshment yesterday. My wife told me she felt so thirsty as the day was so hot and burning. So I stopped my car at one of the warung and asking for a glass of regular ABC, while my wife get a nice special ABC with mixture of corn, 'cendul' and few other 'special ingredients'.

No regrets at all. Worth for thirsty throat.. Missed it again today. Muar, Johor - 88 degrees F, 75% humidity.

Night Market : What special?

Malaysian Night market (locally called pasar malam @ pasar lambak) is the best place to get varieties of foods, clothing and even imitation merchandised products. The coolest part, all sellers gathered with their best shots and the price is lower than original market.

Sometimes you can find very rare items as the seller is doing tour from one place to another but normally sellers are stick at a place regularly. Like this big salted fish in the photo down here, the guy who are selling it is very odd to appear. Only once within 1 - 2 months.
The night market normally held once a week at the village or town area, which managed either by the community or city council. The reason why most of the stuffs are cheap is because the traders don't have to pay high amount of rent for doing business, compare to commercial area.


If you haven't try it, why don't give a shot if you are coming to Malaysia. Don't forget to ask the locals where 'pasar malam' are organized and on which day they fall.

Fruits season in Malaysia

It is now time for harvesting for some seasonal fruit in Malaysia. Major fruits available now are durian, rambutan and manggis. If you are type of 'fruit eater' , why not try it here in Malaysia. The price is dropping during middle of the fruit season. This is happen when there are bunches of fruits harvested and the market are overloaded with this fruits.

Most Malaysian are addicted to this fruit. European says it smelly (smell like sampah!) but the price can goes up very high, depend on rare species and availablity. Me? I don't really eat it as my granma's got lots of the trees. Besides, it is not good for health - especially high blood and diabetes. Full of sugar and calories...



Manggis

The colour is really nice, sometimes they apply name of the colour for textile and fabric (warna manggis). The character of buah manggis - soft skin, violet colur. Compress with both hand to open it. The taste sweet sour.




Rambutan

Easily found at the infront of almost villagers house in Johor (especially Muar and Segamat). There got 2 types of rambutan - yellow and red. Sweet and sour, with the hairy skin, they look nice!

Cheap Buffet : Chicken Heartz Restaurant, Sunway Pyramid

Do you enjoy eating chicken? What kind of chicken? Roasted chicken or fried chicken? Breast, wings, boneless? Name it! Believe me you won't regret to be here. Eat as you can. Only RM27 (or RM 31??) can't recall exactly about the price per head. Kids can go cheaper. They got height ruler to categorize 'kids'.



Chicken Heartz provide varities of western style food with chicken as a main dish. Located at the lower ground of Sunway Pyramid Shopping Center. With nice decoration and modern interior, this place is cozy and worth for value. Enjoy the food with unlimited adds on food as they served with buffet style.

Buy fish fresh from the ocean!

Sometimes I've been here every time I went back to my wife's place. This place called Sempang Pantai, Merlimau. There are some villagers here work as a fisherman for living. The small jetty looks so beautiful. I like the character of the small stream (river) for the boats.

If you are looking for cheap and fresh fish, be here when they are back. Don't wait until all fish unloaded, and display at the fish market stall nearby. The price will be absolutely different.

Where to buy Keropok in Terengganu?

If you are coming to visit Terengganu, make sure you'll get the 'keropok ikan' fish crackers, famously known across the nation made by the locals.

Where to buy the best keropok ikan in Terengganu?

If you are at Kuala Terengganu, Pasar Payang is the easiest for you to get those items as well as the batik.

Losong, located nearby the State Muzium Muzium Negeri Terengganu gathered all the most famous keropok in Malaysia. Losong also has its trademark for the small industri product with the brand "LOSONG". You can see all blue signboard over there.

Another famous keropok brand in Kuala Terengganu is known as '007' - which clearly seen on their signboard, if you are passing the main road at Kuala Ibai. I don't known how they get the idea to put 'double O seven' on it.. :)

Another famous keropok product is comes from Setiu. If you can't make it to Setiu, you stil can manage to get them at Marang district. All along the road are fulls of keropok stalls, which you can get the raw keropok keping and keropok gonde @ gete @ lekor.


Just in front of Pantai Kelulut, Marang, there got one big keropok shop - Keropok Lekor 008 Kelulut (this one is double O eight). There were always full of customers stop here for variation of keropok, chili sauce and other driedseafood products.

Anyway, please bare in mind that keropok keping / keropok lekor available in other stall should be on the best quality. As long as they are originally from Terengganu, the taste is there, the standard is almost the same.

Under Muar New 2nd Bridge

Haw you ever wonder having morning breakfast under the bridge? Sit on the fishing chair just on the river banks. It is awesome! Even it can't beat the coziness of the 5 star hotels restaurant, the nature environment made me calm.

I had the idea this morning after she had the pregnancy regular check and we went to the restaurant and bought some foods - straight away to the place.

Even the meals are so simple - prata bread and some pastries plus hot coffee and MILO (chocolate). The perfect simple picnic is no doubt. We had very nice moment there.
